The European Commission forecasts a still heavy increase of vehicle kilometres. To keep mobility in future the European Commission has initiated the eSafety Programme and a number of research and development programs to contribute to reduction of road fatalities and further improve the efficiency and ecology of road traffic. As the future potential of passive safety measures is limited, new active safety measures are needed to open the additional safety potential needed e.g. preventing accidents.
